Another great topic was prompted by a comment at the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce, Business Before Breakfast. One participant was commenting that she was really looking forward to Friday. I commented that my week STARTS on Friday. I thought a good topic for discussion would be “what does your Friday look like?” Others thought a better topic would be what Sunday looks like. Here is my Sunday.
As a Realtor, my days off are sometimes during the week. I try my best to take 1.5 days off. It doesn’t always work out but I know what I signed up for in this career. I try my best to take a full day on Saturday and I work, full out, on Sunday. This past Sunday I listed a house at 9:30 AM, had an open house (sometimes I have 2), and then I had 2 different Buyer clients, completed a report to challenge a low appraisal on a house and prepared a lease. That is how Sunday differs from most of my business networking partners. The rest of Sunday, I imagine, is very similar. This process usually takes me from 2-4 hours but pays dividends during the week. I can go through the week knowing that there will be crises and problems to solve but I will not spend the week completely “IN THE WEEDS”. I can spend time working ON my business instead of IN my business and still make sure to “ENJOY THE RIDE”.
1- Start with a review of the week– I do a “HOT SHEET’ for my TEAM. This is a review of the RESULTS of efforts from the week…new listings, new accepted offers, price reductions,, closings. Is essence it is a progress check up. I also go through my DAILY TASKS to see if anything needs to be carried over, postponed, delegated or discarded.
2- I set my calendar- I am very obviously OCD because my calendar is color codes based on activities. Blue is fun/personal time…which goes in FIRST. Next comes appointments and obligations which can be purple for a new client, yellow for client maintenance like open houses, closings, bank appraisals, professional photos etc which is yellow. Webinars, Seminars and learning opportunities are turquoise. Networking, client lunches are light green and team/agent meetings orange. At the top of each page is an all-day event…OFFICE WORK…which is my :”TO-DO” list of small 10-20 minute items. Anything longer than that is scheduled as a time block. From gardening to blogging is time blocked with tons of open white space for the unforeseen.
3- I prepare for Monday-I have all files, tasks completed to get through Monday. This week it meant getting ready to meet 3 new potential clients on Monday, prepare for meeting a bank appraiser. I ALWAYS prepare a day ahead of time for any appointment. Yu never know when the computer will freeze or the internet is down.
4- I review my 90 day goals and see if there is space to time block for some progress on any areas..be it researching a vacation destination to developing a new Buyer Information Guide…to downloading a new meditation app to start using.
5- I BUNCH errands for the week-I do my laundry, make a list of personal errands to run for the week….get jelly for the food bank, go to the post office to return a clothing item, get weed killer, make a trip to s=Staples.
6- I reward myself with my weekly bowl of ice cream and watching an episode of Game of Thrones!!
Sometimes, like this past Sunday, I worked until midnight after beginning my day at 9:00 AM. But, I have set myself up for success, less stress and included personal and fun stuff. Every Sunday is not as crazy busy as this past Sunday or what looks like a repeat next Sunday, but these 6 things I do as a habit every single Sunday. I call it my POWER DAY. If I prepare, I know my week will be productive and that I will MOVE THE NEEDLE towards all of my goals, business, health, family, financial and just selfish personal fun.
