Did you know that after married couple (65%), the next largest buying group is SINGLE WOMEN?? Even though, statistically, women have lower incomes than men, they buy homes at three times the rate of single men (18% for women 7% for men). My opinion is that many of these single men are still living in their parents’ basements!!!
Reasons for single women buying homes are changes in family situation such as a divorce or birth of a child. The second most frequently mentioned reason is to be closer to family and friends and the third reason is simply their desire to have a permanent HOME of their own. This again indicates to me that today’s women “ADULT” younger than their male counterparts.
12% of single women buy multigenerational homes. 21% take care of aging parents, 18% have children over the age of 18 who are moving back into the house (boomerang kids), 18% are looking to save money and 14% have children over the age of 18 who have yet to move out.
The average age of single women buying their first home is 35 while repeat buyers it is 58.
I LOVE STATISTICS.
