Thursday June 15th,
It has been one month since I started this new, exciting, diplomatic, inspiring job as an INTERN for Linda McCaffrey of McCaffrey Professionals. Sure, I’m just an assistant right now, but we all have to start somewhere, right? I’m starting just about where I always have wanted to begin; with a top producing team of full time Realtors. I could not be more blessed with this opportunity. Who knew that
actually engaging with experienced individuals at your parents fundraising event could lead to the beginning of my trail to be an entrepreneur.
As of a couple months ago, I would not consider myself to be …
Tuesday July 18th,
It’s been 2+ months since I started. Clearly this blog got away from me and I even stopped my last thought mid-sentence. That is actually a great example of the way this business can be. It’s not always dependable, or in simpler terms, easy. You rely on other individuals in every aspect of the real estate business. When they need you, you’re there. Or at least, if you’re a good agent, you’re there. And when you’re me, you need to be there. (intern problems-time management)
I have learned far beyond what I thought was possible in the short time I’ve been working here. The best
thing I think I’ve learned is that with all the lead up time I’ve had thinking and dreaming and wishing to be in the real estate business, I do indeed love it. I’ve learnt how to list properties, sell properties, get the paperwork,
sign the paperwork, the whole shabang. Just call me your average Linda McCaffrey! It only takes 2 months to know it all, right?!?! WRONG!! I wish. I continue to be amazed every single day by how much that goes into being a real estate agent. But that’s just brilliant to me. Wouldn’t you like to be surprised and taught every day of your work career? Too many people aren’t. Too many people hate their jobs, especially their first jobs.
I am not saying that someone should love every minute of what is supposed to be “work”. There are al lot of boring, mundane tasks involved in real estate. But, follow your passion, follow your instinct, follow your strange obsession, habits, and what you’re good at. I have heard complaints around me about this profession. But they are different complaints than what I normally hear. They have been complaints that can be fixed by dedication and enthusiasm for what makes them want this career. If you know WHY you are doing what you are doing even the boring tasks take on significance. A house is not a home without the people who are living in it. Real estate agents are helping to buy and sell HOMES. Our dedication (WHY) is driven from all the people being guided and helped by our work. We get to assist terrific people in their next journey and big step in their life. It’s energizing to be able to be such a significant aide in one’s major and valuable life-decision. In a job, money is essential and when one is not succeeding they cannot support themselves and their family. But you can find that job that is meaningful to you and when you discover that, you will work your butt off and the money will come. The lesson is to concentrate on the why and onyour actions and the results will come. Be patient. I’ve been seriously wanting and waiting to
do this since I was 13.
I am thrilled to have begun the journey to success. Success for me is in this crazy profession they call real estate. I’m surrounded by a great group of agents, brokers, overall people. I have not met one agent who was not supportive of my desire to be in the biz. I have received the best enthusiasm and tips that one could hope for. Yet I am hoping for lots more… I have a long way to go. But I could not be more excited for the ride!
