Yes, improvements are on the way. Representatives from the DOT presented the approved plan at a town hearing last week. Improvements are to begin in 2021 and be completed in 2022. This project, estimated at $6 Million dollars, will be 80% paid by the Federal Government and 20% by the State.
There will be 5 ft. sidewalks running from Bj’s to Beverly Drive (between Moe’s and McDonalds) and also from Savers to the Lazyboy Plaza Driveway on the opposite side. Crosswalks with pedestrian signals will be installed at the Shoprite/ Chick fil A Intersection and also between Moe’s and the Petco Plaza. Plans are also underway for covered shelters for bus stops at these 2 locations. That would be separate from this plan.
The road will be widened at the Shoprite/ Chick fil A intersection to accommodate new turning lanes on each side for a total of 5 lanes in each direction. Additional designated turning lanes will also be added where Beverly Drive and Hardscrabble Road intersect with Federal Road. A NEW light will be added at that location.
The second light will be removed where Federal Road intersects with Old New Milford Road heading towards the YMCA. The section of Old New Milford Road will become ONE WAY ONLY as far as the entrance to Brookfield Family Medical Building Entrance. The south end of Old New Milford Road will be totally closed and that road redirected at to a NEW ROAD that will cut between the new Noodle Restaurant and ReMax. The small white house in that location will be removed to accommodate the new road which will be equipped with a light and dedicated turning lanes.
The DOT has been working with all property owners along the route to ensure that the business owners’ needs are being addressed. No one at the meeting spoke in opposition to the plan. It is still several years away but it is coming!!! Nothing like this happens overnight and this is a lot faster than the Route 7 bypass!!!
